Random blobs

While I can’t stitch very well at the moment due to my arm, I  certainly can wrap. I found this blue roundish slightly stuffed object that one of the girls had made. It has a cat face drawn on, hand stitched to close and a hair tie to close the stuffing hole at the top. So I wrapped it in threads and ribbons and fabric strips. Reminds me of the secret wrapping and hiding works of Judith Scott a woman with an intellectual disability who wrapped and wrapped. Hiding feelings, or thoughts or wishes or regrets? Who knows? Louise Bourgeois also did some wrapping and she saw it as a mending from emotional pains.

It feels gentle in my hand . I have left the hair tie at the top. It has come to life. Enclosing, keeping safe the past.

Not quite there

I had some plan in mind and worked a way to get to the desired outcome. Spent time working an idea but then when I got started I realised it was just not going to work. I got frustrated and hurriedly tried to change direction. Completely different to what I wanted, so back to the drawing board. But this odd bod piece is interesting in its own way.

On ecodyed cotton and I actually started using my ‘good’ threads rather than from my stash of old DMC embroidery threads.

Stitching cardboard

I am finding it difficult to stitch with my arm in plaster so thought I would try to stitch shapes cut from cardboard. I used old packages such as fishfingers, birdseed and granola. Then it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work out as expected. I could roughly cut and punched the holes with a large needle so it was easy to follow along to hold all together . I chose a curved patchwork block and was only going to do two but kept going until I had four then found a different package so continued to a 9 patch block. According to my friend Jane it is a Robbing Peter to pay Paul . A slow challenge and found the stitching with left hand caused it to be totally out of whack . Or perfectly imperfect as the sewing goes. It’s love and floppy yet sturdy to hold.  This is the second image below.

During the process my inner child kicked in and with the left over pieces of card I made just one Orange Peel block but glued the ‘petals’ on this time ( first image)
